Meditation Monday

The month of June has been a very active month at my home church, Watson Chapel Baptist Church. There has been many ministry opportunities and many have been ministered to. It has been very exciting, but has also been too busy for Meditation Monday’s, but Meditation Monday is back with a review of our June 29th service which was our God and Country day. Pastor Todd Howard led us in an exposition of 2 Chronicles 7:11-14 with the sermon titled “How is The Church to Act in The World”

One need only to watch the news or read the newspaper to see that the world is in tough times. There are some churches that have adapted to the changing cultural conditions the world has accepted, but the Bible calls sin. How is the church to act in this 21st century world? There were some quotes in the sermon which were powerful statements of how the church should act.

You and I, the church, need to speak the truth in the world.

The church needs to live the Gospel out in the world.

Don’t get distracted by what’s not important…. Don’t settle for stupid stuff.

What can you do to be Gospel effective in Pine Bluff, AR?

The church is God’s plan A for the world and there is no plan B. We who are the church need to speak the truth in a world which so desperately needs it. We are the truth beacon, we are the truth lighthouse, we are the truth siren in the world and we must sound the alarm and shine the light in the world. As the church, we must be Truth Speakers and faithfully live out the Gospel (I really wanted to put Truth Speakers and Gospel Livers) before our world. Our lives can get so distracted we forget our mission as the Church. we must not get distracted, people are dying and going to hell while we are distracted by what’s not important. How must we be Truth Speakers and Gospel Livers ;)?

Be Humble

As the church we must be humble. We must put on the mind of Christ who is the ultimate picture of humility. We need to check our preconceived notions and our self-centeredness at the door and just lovingly lead people to the truth.

Be Praying

Prayer is a sign of our dependence on God. God is the Sovereign Ruler of the universe, He is in control. We need to recognize this and pray for His will to be realized in our lives, our church, our community and our world. Prayerlessness in our lives shows our lack of dependence, humility, and we have enough we don’t need what God provides. A scary place to be.

Be With God

We need to seek after God. Grow deeper into God. This is not something mystical or magical. When we seek after God we have our faces in the Bible. We are in the Word, sharing the Word, praying the Word and singing the Word. Seeking God is getting to know Him and all He wants us to know about Him, is in the Word. Let’s not make it harder than it is or something that it is not. Let’s get into the word and get to know God.

Be Pure

Be humble, be prayerful, be intimate with God (kind of felt like Warren Wiersbe there) but all of this is for nothing if you don’t live the Gospel. Being pure for the Christian is living out what he is on the inside, holy. God requires the believer to live in obedience. We must live out the Gospel and when the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, we repent, deal with it and leave it.

So what can you do to effectively live out the Gospel in your city?

Until next time

Soli Deo Gloria
